    Details, details, details...

    Write down the goal. Then rewrite it with more detail. Keep reiterating the goal until the aim is a clear, definable, quantitative result you wish to attain.

    Measurable

    Measure up.

    By placing the measuring stick against the goal you can see how far you've come and how far the finish line may still be. Success is not just found at the end of the project, but along the journey of smaller milestones.

    Attainable

    When climbing a mountain, stay on the trail.

    Every goal must be based on truth, understanding, and an ability to be reached. Go ahead, set your sights high, but have a path beneath your feet.

    Realistic

    Think globally, act locally.

    An ability to understand the sphere of your influence and those around you allows a realistic view of the potential in completing your goal. Sometimes one goal needs to break into smaller steps to reach an eventual summit.
